Hello and welcome to Minnow Creek

Minnow Creek Wines was founded in early 2005 after spending the preceding six years as a winemaker at Fox Creek in McLaren Vale.  Prior to this I worked two vintages in France (in the Beaujolais and the Languedoc). I wished to produce wines with my own stamp and believe I do so through Minnow Creek Wines.

All my red fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale.  The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Adelaide Hills.

Why the name?  Well we are truly tiny fish in a big sea of wineries, with one principal aim: to produce limited volumes of high quality wine that reflect the soils and climate of McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills regions.

There are currently four wines in the Minnow Creek stable.

A first for Minnow Creek is my 2013 The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec.
The Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine is from a Lopresti family block known as the Green Shed, at the Aldinga end of McLaren Vale.

Wine under this label will only be produced in exceptional vintages

I have been producing Shiraz since 2005 from the Lopresti family’s Nursery block, situated about 1 km south of the Cabernet Sauvignon and planted in 1994.  Single cordon trellising, always well-balanced canopy to fruit ratio generally carrying 3.5-4 ton/acre.  Typically giving concentrated black fruits, often with an element of aniseed and delightful firm savoury tannins.

The Black Minnow (Sangiovese 74%, Cabernet Sauvignon 26%)

I wanted to craft a medium bodied vibrant red blend from McLaren Vale fruit.  Having tasted some local Sangiovese wines, in 2006 I decided to trial a Sangiovese blend, primarily by starting in the vineyard.  A blend of grapes in the mouth gave very promising results and, 12 months later, the Black Minnow was born.  The result is a medium weight, spicy fruit driven complex red wine that drinks easily and ages well.

And what would Summer be without some beguilingly beautiful white wine?

The Silver Minnow Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc

Always delightfully fresh and varietal.  In recent vintages around 30% of the volume is fermented in two year old Dargaud & Jaegle French barriques.  The intention being to provide additional layers of depth and complexity.
