The 2014 Shiraz comes from the Lopresti family’s Nursery block, situated at the Aldinga end of McLaren Vale. Single cordon trellising, always well-balanced canopy to fruit ratio generally carrying 3.5-4 t/acre. Typically giving concentrated black fruits, often with an element of aniseed and delightful firm savoury tannins.
First produced in 2005, the 2014 was fermented on skins for six days then pressed to World Cooperage American Oak and Vicard French Oak, 30% of which was new. The balance of oak 2-4 years old, keeping this wine very much in style with my previous Shiraz releases. Matured for 18 months, filtered and minimal Sulphur added.
Bottled in November 2015. Released in September 2016
Colour: Intense deep red with vivid purple rim
Nose: Concentrated blackberry and dark plum with an element of light charry oak
Palate: A full rich taste of intense spicy blackberry on entry leading on to a mid palate of complex dark plum and mocha. Excellent depth of black fruits with a long balanced finish supported by a fine tannin grip.
Drinks well on release. Advisable to decant prior to serving to see this wine at its best.
Up to 8 years in a good cellaring environment
Technical: 14.5% Alc/vol pH 3.56 6.4 g/l TA
