The Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine is from a Lopresti family block known as the Green Shed, at the Aldinga end of McLaren Vale.
Vintage conditions in 2013 allowed for a gentle build-up of flavour and varietal character which allowed us to think that a Reserve wine from MV Cabernet could be a possibility. Fermented on skins and hand plunged for 7 days in open fermenters then pressed to tank, before being racked to new Radoux demi-puncheons (400 ltr) and Quintessence French oak (2yo).
The Malbec also comes from Lopresti vineyards, planted in 1994, always delivering beautiful colour, lifted blueberry flavour and full balanced tannins. Fermented in an open fermenter, then matured in Quintessence oak as above. The finished wine is a blend of 73% Cabernet and 27% Malbec. Bottled in last week of January 2015. Released March 2016
The Reserve will only be made in years when fruit quality is seen to be exceptional.
Colour: A delightful deep garnet with purple rim
Nose: The nose shows lifted blackcurrant, blueberry and touches of nutmeg and dark chocolate
Palate : A medium bodied generous entry flows onto a complex combination of brooding dark fruits and oak spice. The fruit intensity continues to grow into the back palate whilst being supported by firm balanced acidity and persistent tannins
At this stage of release this wine is recommended to be decanted prior to serving.
Up to 15 years in good cellaring conditions
14% Alc/vol, pH 3.46, 6.8 g/l TA
“Matured for 20 months in French oak, it has a fragrant bouquet and a powerful palate: cassis and plum fruit are seamlessly joined together, this union in turn is supported by tannins guaranteed to soften long before the fruit fades. A seriously good wine!”
