Vintage 2017 is well underway!
A cool wet Spring has certainly delayed vintage this year. The weather gods were kinder in March, allowing for a delightful rise in tannin and flavour ripeness.
A first at Minnow Creek, we now have some quite wonderful McLaren Vale Chardonnay in barrel.
Full of citrus and white stone fruit and now sugar dry. The wine is being periodically lees stirred to achieve the complexity we are looking for. This wine will be due for release in mid-September 2017.
Our Shiraz is now pressed into a combination of new and second use French Oak, where it will slumber peacefully until most likely September 2018.
A beautiful refined palate awaits. Now showing a strong line of deep raspberry and blackberry with ripe tannins and supporting acidity.
Our Sangiovese is currently undergoing primary fermentation. The fruit at the crusher showed very bright dark cherry and raspberry flavours with good supporting acidity, and great length of palate.
The pressed wine will be matured in second use French Demi Puncheons and Hogsheads.
I anticipate a possible June 2018 release at this stage.
So what’s to come in yet?
A little Cabernet Sauvignon and some Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc and we’re done.
